Famed "sword scene" from the 1967 film version

Stephan Matthews, the fragrance reviewer and enthusiast has published a lovely article on his Putting Fun Back Into Fragrance blog of Far From the Madding Crowd, one of our eau de parfum fragrances in the S.Baker Collection.

Getting entirely to grips with how and why Thomas Hardy’s novel inspired this fragrance and gave it its name, his insights and observations about the juice a razor sharp. Or should that be sabre sharp?

“the sword ‘gleamed a sort of greeting, like a living thing’, and it’s this that I was reminded of when I smelled the fragrance”

We recommend that you read his article if you’re interested in knowing more about the fragrance’s very particular combination of notes evoking a vivid pastoral olfactory experience.

Thank you Stephan for your continued interest in the house.
